Wang Xi

Transferred from Nankai University Binhai College (China) for 3rd year

I transferred to Hakodate University in order to pursue my studies of the Japanese language after majoring in it at Nankai University Binhai College in China. One of the main reasons I chose Hakodate University for studying abroad is that I was intrigued by the fact that I could learn not only the language but also commercial science. On top of that I wanted learn about the real Japan by living in a smaller city such as Hakodate, not a metropolis like Tokyo or Osaka.

At Hakodate University I acquired plenty of knowledge about business and good communication skills through various opportunities, such as discussions in small groups or presentations conducted outside of the university. Plus, some classes gave me opportunities to study Japanese history and Japanese movies so that I was able to learn Japanese culture from a variety of perspectives.
Through my two years of life in Hakodate, Hakodate became my "hometown” in Japan. There are so many fantastic and beautiful places to enjoy in this city, not to mention the seasonal events such as the Hakodate Port Festival in summer and Hakodate Christmas Fantasy in winter. By interacting with local people through these events, I realized how much Japanese culture is influenced by traditional rituals, like kabuki or tea ceremony, in addition to events of daily life.
Currently, I work in the marketing department of All Nippon Airways (ANA) in Tokyo. I make an effort every day at work to be a bridge between Japan and China by making use of my Japanese language skills.
